We’ve got a new vicar!

Hopefully you’ve heard our exciting news by now, but if you haven’t, then read on!

We are extremely delighted to announce that Rev’d Rebecca Susan Fardell, currently Assistant Curate of the Parish of the Itchen Valley, has been appointed as Vicar of Sunnyside and Bourne End.  This is subject to the completion of legal formalities.  The Institution and Induction will take place in mid May.

Rebecca was rather thrown in at the deep end when after only six months into her curacy, the rector left and she then had to cover a vacancy period for eighteen months.  During that period she looked after four churches, was responsible for significant growth in the children and youth work and encouraged and developed the prayer life of her community.

Rebecca writes:

““I am currently the assistant curate of the Itchen Valley Parish, four villages east of Winchester.  Before ordination, I was a teacher and museum curator; history and museums remain passions of mine.  I am the devoted aunt of two beautiful nieces and three gorgeous godchildren (aged 16 years – 4 months) who all bring me much joy.

My ministry has been shaped by the Anglican tradition with its charge to serve all souls in the parish, not just those who come to church, and its commitment to word and sacrament.  I have been highly influenced by the evangelical tradition with its emphasis on the Bible as the inspired word of God which shows us our need for salvation, how to grow as disciples and equips us to effectively share the Gospel with others.  My ministry has also been shaped by the charismatic tradition with its emphasis on the continuing activity of the Holy Spirit and the role of Spiritual gifts in today’s church.

I am excited about what God will do in us, through us and for us at Sunnyside and Bourne End and am thanking Him for the privilege and joy of coming to serve as your new vicar.”

We believe God has sent Rebecca to us as exactly the right person to fulfil the role set out in the parish profile and gleaned from the survey and she, in turn, was absolutely delighted to have been offered the position and accepted immediately.

We look forward very much to welcoming her into the heart of our church family and  eagerly anticipate Rebecca leading us on the next stage of our individual and collective Christian journeys.  We believe she will nurture, encourage, challenge and inspire us all. Please pray for Rebecca as she prepares to come and lead us as well as for the church as we enter into a new stage together.
