Launch of the Roof Appeal

You may have seen that we’ve just started our ‘Raise the Roof’ campaign following a variety of different problems with the roofs of the Church Hall as well as the Breukelman Room. It all started back in September when the Breukelman Room flooded, prompting the need for redecoration and urgent repairs. Unfortunately, there was a second flood just before the redecoration work was due to begin. On an entirely unrelated but equally concerning matter, the roof of the Church Hall is at the end of its working life. Many of  its cedar shingles are covered in moss and some are damaged and in urgent need of replacing. Thankfully, we have already secured donations and loan pledges totalling £90,000, but we’re seeking to raise a further £114,000 to replace the hall roof with new slate tiles (these last 75 years rather than the previous 30 plus!) and to fix the Breukelman Roof also. We’re hoping to move quite quickly and have the money raised by the end of August in order that work can begin in the autumn.

We launched the appeal on Sunday 8th July and you can listen to it here.

You can also view the Powerpoint files that accompany Peter’s part of the talk by clicking here.

First, Rebecca Fardell, our Vicar, outlines how the buildings fit into the vision of our church before Peter Hyatt, our Giving Officer, gives us an update on some of the finer details of the appeal. Please take the time to listen to the launch of the appeal if you missed it.

Please pray as we seek God’s favour in providing the necessary finances to undertake this building project and consider whether or not you’d be able to financially support this initiative. For more details, please read the appeal leaflet, which you can access by clicking here. This leaflet and response forms can also be found in church over the next few Sundays or in the church office. If you’ve got specific questions relating to the project, please contact Peter Hyatt on [email protected]
