The Deanery Synod is the meeting of local Anglican churches. They host an annual lecture, this year from Canon Edgar Ruddock who will be speaking on Remodelling mission & ministry – ‘The Power of Accompaniment’. Everyone is welcome to this open meeting at St Mary’s Church, Northchurch.

Edgar began his ministry in 1979, first as curate, then as Rector of St George’s Newtown, an inner-city parish in Birmingham. After nine years, increasingly engaging in cross-cultural issues, he and his wife offered to serve overseas with USPG. They then worked for nine years in the Province of Southern Africa, first in the Transkei, then in Zululand. After five years Edgar was appointed Director of Training for the Province, covering South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia and the Diocese of St Helena in the Atlantic. This was during the final turbulent years of the apartheid regime. Returning in 1991, Edgar became Team Rector of Stoke upon Trent. Then In 2003 he became International Relations Director for USPG, and subsequently DeputyGeneral Secretary. In 2014 he moved to part-time work with the Society (currently known as ‘Us’), and focusses on the accompaniment of bishops in different parts of the Anglican Communion.
