Gift Day

Gift Day takes place in May or June. We remind people of it in the weeks running up to the date so they have time to consider what they want to give.

How much do we raise through Gift Day?

Sunnyside church members have always been very generous at Gift Day. We usually raise about £35,000

What charities receive the Gift Day money?

60% usually goes to charities working overseas. Some of these do direct mission work, for example the Bible Society. Others do development work, for example World Vision and Christian Aid. Some do both, for example Task Force Romania, and ASHA a charity that supports vulnerable girls in Bangladesh. Other charities such as the Bulawayo Shelter simply care for the basic daily needs of the destitute. click one of these links for examples of the work of these charities

Who decides where the money goes?

We have two committees, the Overseas Partnership Committee and the Outreach Support Group (for local charities). The members decide how to allocate the Gift Day money. There is a list of committee members on the notice board in the lobby. Please contact one of the two Chairs if you want to join or to find out more.We welcome suggestions about which charities we should support with Gift Day funds.
Click giving diagram FINAL 2012 which shows how the giving is allocated.

How do I know the money is being well spent?

The committees keep in touch with the charities and make sure they continue to make good use of the money. Regular updates are given in The Sundial and in the monthly talks at the 10.00 am service. All church members are encouraged to make suggestions and ask questions about the charities we support through Gift Day.If you have not taken part in Gift Day before please consider doing so when it comes up this year. People experience great reward in collective giving.
