music

Music is an important part of communal worship here at Sunnyside.
Through singing we can praise God together, encourage fellowship, receive Biblical teaching, be lifted up in worship & adoration, and be challenged to change our lives, following God’s call.

music within our Sunday services

10am – We sing a broad selection of both modern worship songs and traditional hymns, using a variety of different instrumental groups.
Keyboard is the main instrument used to accompany our congregational singing, and the organ is used every few weeks.

The most frequent music groups are Core Band (singers + keyboard, guitar, trumpet, bass & drums) and Vocal Group (singers + keyboard).

These groups aim to meet once a month, to learn new songs, share prayer needs, and generally get to know one another better – which helps both our musical worship & our fellowship. Our main rehearsal is on a Sunday morning, before the service.

Other music groups, included on a regular basis, are: Revive Youth band, Sunday@5 band, wind/brass group.

Sunday@5

(Aimed predominantly at 9-14 yr-olds/families).

We have a dedicated S@5 Band, with both children and adults participating. This consists of singers with keyboard, guitar, drums, wind & brass – whoever wants to join in! Music is specially arranged for the band, and the mood is lively and informal.

Revive

The Youth form their own band, with singers and instrumentalists. They lead worship themselves, with support from Jammy, the Youth Worker. The ambience is intimate and informal, generally with a time of worship at the start of the evening.

Special Services

At Easter & Christmas we gather together a larger choir and also aim to have an instrumental group, including as many musicians as possible. We spend time beforehand, rehearsing purpose-written arrangements, to help the whole church celebrate these special occasions.

Wednesdays 9.30am

We usually sing 2 hymns during this 45 minute service, accompanied by keyboard.

Weddings & Funerals

The organ is normally – but not exclusively – used on these occasions, depending on the choice of music and the preference of the families concerned.
