With less than two weeks to go until the big day itself, we’re looking forward to celebrating Christmas at Sunnyside church. There’s all sorts going on and we’d love to see you. Whether you’re a regular church goer or not, we promise you’ll find a warm welcome at Sunnyside throughout this festive season. We like to think that there’s something for everyone to join in with, whether you’re young or old, just down the road or a little further away, a committed christian or not sure what you think – Christmas is a time for coming together with old friends and new ones and that’s exactly what we hope will happen! Read on for some of the key services happening at Sunnyside this year.
9am – 9pm | Thursday 15th December
We realise that life can be a bit hectic most of the time, but especially at Christmas. There are presents to buy, turkeys to order, family to organise and cards to write, but in and amongst the busyness we don’t want to lose sight of the ‘reason for the season’. If you’d value some space to be quiet with God and others, Christmas Calm is for you. We’ll have prayers stations, reflections and readings to give you the time to remember what it’s all about.
Carols by Candlelight
6.30pm | Sunday 18th December
They say that Carols make Christmas feel all the more special. Join us as we belt out a few of the old favourites and are serenaded by the choir to a couple of new ones all within the beauty of candlelight. We finish with mulled wine and mince pies – come and be a part of it!
Carol Singing along George St & Ellesmere Road
6.30pm | Monday 19th December
We have a long running tradition of carol singing along the streets nearby to Sunnyside. Although our singing may not be the best (although we do try quite hard!) we certainly enjoy ourselves and instead of collecting money, we give out free mince pies. If you see us, say hello or better yet, join in! We try not to lose any stragglers when we pop into The Boat and The Rising Sun pubs, although we can’t guarantee it… All the singing and walking tends to work up an appetite so we finish with a fish & chip supper back at Sunnyside – be sure to order in advance!
5pm | Christmas Eve
There’s sweets, oranges, candles and sharp pointy sticks plus lots of excited children – what could possibly go wrong?! Our Christingle service is the perfect way for the whole family to enjoy Christmas Eve together as we celebrate Jesus, the light of the world.
11pm | Christmas Eve
Be the first to celebrate the main event at our midnight communion service. Stroll up the road from a local pub or leave the warmth of your living room to join together with others as we join together in the sharing of bread and wine. All are welcome to come along.
Christmas Day Celebration
10am | Christmas Day
Join us for a 45 minute celebration first thing in the morning. There will be smiles all round, prayers and praise, and no doubt a few cheeky christmas presents on display. If you’ve got family visiting, bring them along – there’s room for all to come and enjoy the ‘birthday celebration’!
