We began our new sermon series on prayer on Sunday and today 38 people gathered in the Vicarage to think a bit more about ‘What is prayer?’
In his book ‘Holy Habits’, Andrew Roberts compares prayer to breathing. We know we need to breathe oxygen all the time to keep physically alive. Prayer is what we need to breathe all the time to keep spiritually alive. ‘Prayer is the spiritual air we breathe. We breathe in the grace, blessings, peace, courage, holiness of God and breathe out our adoration, praise, thanksgiving, confession and intercession.’
Why not spend some time breathing in and out some spiritual air this week?
We continue our series on prayer on Sunday when we will ask: ‘Why pray?’. We will look at Jesus’ example in Mark 1.35-39 to help us answer the question. There will be another opportunity to discuss this with others at the Vicarage 2-4 or 8-10 on Tuesday.
