I am delighted to announce that we have two new chairs for our Action Groups (formerly known as Mission Groups). Rachel Heath is taking over from Aileen as chair of Pastoral Care and Peter Hyatt is going to be chair of the newly formed Mission Action Group; I will chair the Discipleship Action Group for the first year. Both Rachel and Peter bring a wealth of experience to their roles and I am delighted that they are willing to serve Sunnyside in this way. I know that God will use them to help us grow in these areas of our church life so that we can be even more effective witnesses to Jesus as we seek to share his love with those around us.
As I explained at the Annual Meeting, the idea of the two new groups came out of our discussions at the weekend away. The PCC and I do not think that it is a coincidence that the areas in which we are strongest at Sunnyside – youth, children and families; maintained buildings; well managed finances and good pastoral care – are areas which are covered by an Action Group. We hope that establishing two new groups will help us to grow in the vital areas of discipleship and mission.
Discipleship Action Group will oversee some areas that were covered by pastoral (e.g. housegroups, guided prayer) and things like Alpha. It is charged with exploring ways of helping us grow more as followers of Jesus.
Mission Action Group will oversee gift day, contact with our missionaries, OSG and OPC. It is charged with exploring ways of strengthening our links with our mission partners, supporting those who wish to go on mission and considering how we might reach out more effectively to our parish.
Peter and I will be asking some people to join us on the newly formed groups but if you feel God may be calling you to be part of the Mission or Discipleship Action Groups, please do speak to us.
Peter and Rachel will join the Elders who are me, the churchwardens, the treasurer and the chairs of the Action Groups. Do pray for all our Elders and for those on our Action Groups asking that we may know God’s leading and equipping in our work.
with love and prayers
