Confirmation is a special church service where a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptised. These are promises about turning away from all the sins that separate us from God and other people and turning to Christ as our Saviour and Lord. If you were baptised as a child, your parents and godparents made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, you may now be ready to make these promises for yourself and wish to take this opportunity to publicly commit your life to following Jesus Christ.
At a confirmation service, the bishop reminds us that each of us was called by name and prays that the Holy Spirit will fill each person being confirmed afresh. There will be space for us to share something of how God has been at work in our lives and to commit afresh to seek to be faithful to Christ to the end of our lives.
We are delighted to be welcoming the Bishop of Bedford to Sunnyside on 1st September where he will be confirming some members of our church family. We will all be gathering together that morning at 10.30 (there will be no Nine on 1st September) and the service will be followed by a bring and share lunch in the hall. This is so we can join with the candidates in celebrating this special day in their relationship with Jesus and in our life as a church family.
If you believe that God is calling you to take this step on your journey of faith, please speak to Rebecca as soon as possible. There will be some confirmation classes over the summer months so the candidates can prepare for this special occasion. Dates for this will be arranged when we know who they concern.
