Saturday 14th November 2020 saw Sunnysiders and friends coming together on Zoom to join in Tearfund’s Big Quiz Night 2020. Last year 6,384 people at 560+ quiz nights raised £188,400. At Sunnyside 54 of us in eight teams raised £637 including gift aid, so there were high hopes for this year.

This year Katie Randall-Stratton was quizmaster to 14 teams with 48 of us coming together. First place to FluFighters (Hannah and Kate Smith, Su W, Holly and Jeremy) with 53 points winning a household box each of Toffifees, second place to Penguins and Bears (Katie’s brother, sister-in-law and family) with 52 points, and third place Tescos carpark (Markby family) with 49 points. Just me – Pam Dee (Pam Davis) was awarded the wooden spoon and a bag of Munchies although she was competing on her own so great effort. And special solo bag of Munchies for Phone a Friend! (Rachel Williams) as she got the highest solo score with 47 points, beating other teams, and especially as she didn’t end up phoning a friend once! 

The evening was full of laughs and feedback from it included “The quiz was the best night in we have had in a long long time” and “It was great Katie thank you! I learnt lots and laughed lots, all in a super cause”. Folks were incredibly generous, particularly after an epic annual gift day, and we smashed last year’s total with a whopping £683.75 raised including gift aid. Tearfund Big Quiz 2020 was attended by 486 churches, totalling 17,639 quizzers and the current total stands at an amazing £205,664!
