Community Cafe celebrated it’s 7th anniversary this month. It’s absolutely crazy to think it’s been in existence for so long! Assuming that we hold eight Cafes a year (excluding during COVID times), we average seven cakes provided each Cafe by our amazing bakers, and we have 40 people through the doors each time then we have now hosted approximately 50 Cafes attended by 2000 people (obviously a lot of repeat customers!), and munched our way through 350 cakes and other treats!
Check out the two collages – the first containing pictures from the launch in May 2016 when Samson was only 15 months’ old and helping me to deliver fliers, the second taken last Saturday featuring an eight year old Samson who helped to host Community Cafe, knitted with Grandma as part of the new Craftea initiative, and briefly helped the gardeners too!
Jane Markby and Judy Edrich did a brilliant job hosting. There were more new connections made, further conversations had (including another in French!), and yummy cake eaten. Special mentions this month to Pam Davis for her scrumptious bacon and cheese muffins (particularly yummy warm out of the oven) and to Nicci Boddam-Whetham (one of my lovely new bakers) for the tasty Victoria Sponge she made.
The next Community Cafe is due to be Saturday 17th June 10-11.30am although I need to source two co-hosts for it please as I am not available and my usual suspects are not either! It would be a shame to have to cancel especially as Lucinda Monks is coming to host our second instalment of Craftea – the idea being to bring along whatever craft you are currently working on, have a cuppa, and sit with folks to craft together. Lucinda runs the online Berkhamsted Creative Challenge Facebook group and organised the Berkhamsted Cards of Christmas Hope initiative we took part in last year. Please do extend the invite to local family and friends who like crafting!
Community Cafe then breaks for the summer, returning Saturdays 16th September, 21st October and 18th November, 10-11.30am. Please pop these in your diaries.
Community Cafe wouldn’t be possible without the brilliant folks supporting it – those who bake the yummy cakes, those who come along to co-host, and those who come to set the church back up. If one or more of these aspects interests you then please click on the link for more information – this will be left open all year to capture support. Any questions please contact Katie.
