New sermon series starting this week

The Bible is clear that the Holy Spirit gives all of us gifts and that together we have all the gifts we need for God’s Church to flourish. Do you know what your gifts are? Do you know how to use your gifts to build God’s Church? Over the coming weeks we are going to explore these questions by looking at what St Paul says in chapters from 1 Corinthians.

Body Building: using our gifts to build God’s Church

11th October Gifts for all
readings: 1 Corinthians 1.1-9 and Acts 2.14-18
God gives us all spiritual gifts and provides all we need to be a healthy and flourishing church. Some of us know what our gifts are but others need to discover what they are so we can all play our God-given part in Sunnyside.

18th October What gifts?
readings: 1 Corinthians 12.1-11 and Romans 12.2-10
There are lots of different gifts, but they are all given by the same Holy Spirit and empowered by him. What are your gifts and are you using them?

25th October Using our gifts
readings: 1 Corinthians 12.12-31 and Ephesians 4.1-16
We are all called to use our gifts and work together as part of Christ’s body, the Church. How might you use your gifts to help build God’s Church, particularly his Church at Sunnyside?

1st November Do everything in love
readings: 1 Corinthians 13.1-13 and 1 Peter 4.8-11
Paul reminds us that we should do everything out of love for God and one another (1 Corinthians 16.14). How we use our gifts matters: we need to serve out of love for God and love for one another.

8th November Remembrance Sunday

15th November Gifts to value
readings: 1 Corinthians 14.1-12 and Acts 6.1-6
All our gifts are of equal value, whether they are the more obviously ‘spiritual’ ones like preaching or the less visible ones like administration, they all come from God and are needed for a healthy church.

22nd November What are my gifts?
readings: 1 Corinthians 15.1-11 and Acts 18.1-11
The Spirit intends us to use our gifts in the life of the Church but also to build up God’s kingdom in our daily lives. Do you know what your gifts are?
