Daily Reflection 1: Ascension Day

This is a reflection to help you pray during Thy Kingdom Come. There will be a reflection for each day which will focus on the two main themes of TKC this year: The character of God and living the kingdom through love and service. They have been written by different members of Sunnyside Church. We suggest you ask God to speak to you through the words and picture before you begin, then read slowly through the reflection. What is God saying to you? How might you respond?

Bible Reading: Luke 24.50-53
When Jesus had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.’

Reflection
The last thing Jesus did before he ascended to his throne in heaven was to bless his friends. The response of the disciples was first to worship King Jesus and then to ‘join together constantly in prayer’ (Acts 1.14) until the Holy Spirit was sent to fill them with power, just as Jesus had promised.

How has God blessed you recently?
Is worship your first response to Jesus?
How might you pray during the days of Thy Kingdom Come?

Prayer: collect for Ascension Day
Risen Christ,
you have raised our human nature to the throne of heaven:
help us to seek and serve you,
that we may join you at the Father’s side,
where you reign with the Spirit in glory,
now and for ever. Amen.

Rebecca
