Daily Reflection 5: 22nd May

This is a reflection to help you pray during Thy Kingdom Come. There will be a reflection for each day which will focus on the two main themes of TKC this year: The character of God and living the kingdom through love and service. They have been written by different members of Sunnyside Church. We suggest you ask God to speak to you through the words and picture before you begin, then read slowly through the reflection. What is God saying to you? How might you respond?

Bible Reading: Matthew 13.45-46
Jesus continued, ‘Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.’

Reflection: The Pearl of Great Value
Living a life as Jesus’ disciple is just the best way to way to live. The merchant had many other fine pearls but nothing came close to the special one he found. It was worth trading everything for. Life as Jesus’ disciple, as a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven is immeasurably better than all the other good things that the world has to offer.

Prayer
Begin by thanking God for all the good things in your life: friends, family, your home, the wonderful experiences you have enjoyed over the years.

Then call to mind the privilege of being Jesus’ disciple: the forgiveness, meaning and purpose that knowing and following Jesus brings you. You too are like the merchant because you have been offered the most important thing, the pearl of great price.
