Daily Reflection 7: 24th May

This is a reflection to help you pray during Thy Kingdom Come. There will be a reflection for each day which will focus on the two main themes of TKC this year: The character of God and living the kingdom through love and service. They have been written by different members of Sunnyside Church. We suggest you ask God to speak to you through the words and picture before you begin, then read slowly through the reflection. What is God saying to you? How might you respond?

Bible reading: Psalm 18.1-2
I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Reflection: a firm foundation
Soon after being asked to contribute a reflection, I couldn’t get part of a song out of my head “…And I will build my life upon Your love, It is a firm foundation…” (‘Build my life’ by Pat Barrett). Visiting the Alhambra – a palace and fortress complex in Granada, Spain – whilst writing this, I’ve been struck by the awe-inspiring buildings with vast foundations. Good foundations are solid and strong. Our God is a rock – he is solid and strong, in fact he shows immeasurable strength.

Prayer
Almighty God, I will build my life upon Your love and I will put my trust in You alone. Even in times of immeasurable pain and sorrow, I will know Your love, take refuge in You, and I will not be shaken. You ARE my firm foundation. Amen.

I encourage you to reflect on the lyrics of ‘Build my life’ or on this picture from the Alhambra, and know that we CAN build our lives upon His love.
