Bible reading – Psalm 147:1-5

“Praise the Lord! How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!… [The Lord] heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.”

Reflection

In the passage I have chosen from Psalm 147, I want us to focus on verse 3: God promises that he heals the brokenhearted (referred to also in Isaiah 61:1 and in Jesus’ own words). We know, through our own experience and when watching the news, that as humans we will experience ‘a broken heart’ during our lives. This may be through relationship breakdown, illness, loss of a loved one or, for some, the loss of everything.

Prayer suggestion
Let us take a moment to praise God for when we have known his healing in our lives.
Let us call to mind those known to us who need to know God is the One who heals their broken heart.
