Thursday 16th May 2024 – Make me an instrument of Your peace

Bible reading – Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Reflection

When thinking about this reflection I remembered how, when situations became difficult on the farm, or in the small village where we lived, my father would so often diffuse the tension by getting everyone to laugh and then the situation could be sorted out in a much more rational way. God really can use anything and everything, big or small, obvious or hidden, to make a difference.

Prayer of St Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
