starts 2nd November

We are looking forward to starting a new series of talks in the lead up to Advent. We are going to explore the short but powerful book of Haggai which is in the Old Testament and addresses some of the issues facing God’s people after their return from exile in Babylon but also has much to say to us now. It is particularly appropriate for the lead up to Advent as we will be thinking about what it might mean for us to build together: to build with one another and to build with God. Why not join us?

Building Together: Lessons from Haggai

Sunday 2nd November Haggai: the Lord’s messenger
readings: Ezra 6.13-18 and John 14.15-21
Starting with the context for Haggai’s teaching, we will ask what God was saying through him to the people then and what he might be saying to us now.

Sunday 9th November Remembrance Sunday

Sunday 16th November Building Together: a question of priorities
readings: Haggai 1.1-15 and Luke 12.28-34
Haggai calls on the people to prioritise worshipping God and the needs of the community over self-interest. In the busyness of modern life, how might this challenge us?

Sunday 23rd November Building Together: God’s Church
readings: Haggai 2.1-9 and 1 Corinthians 3.1-9
God invites us all to play our part in working with him to build his Church and encourages us with the reminder that he is with us and has the necessary resources.

Sunday 30th November Building Together: our future hope
readings: Haggai 2.10-23 and Matthew 19.16-30
Haggai ends with a reminder of God’s faithfulness and calls us to be faithful whilst we wait for Jesus to come again. What might area of our lives might God want us to focus on this Advent as we seek to become more like Jesus?
