On Sunday we are excited to be starting a new series of talks on the First Letter of John in which we will explore what it means to be children of God. This series is an opportunity for us to think about some of the basics of our Christian faith and to recommit ourselves to live lives of love as children of God.
Children of God: a series of talks on 1 John
Sunday 21st June Witnesses to Jesus
readings: 1 John 1.1-2.2; John 3.19-21
We are called to be people who know that they have been forgiven their sins because of what Jesus did and to show the truth of that by how we live so we can be good witnesses for Jesus.
Sunday 28th June Love One Another
readings: 1 John 2.3-27; John 15.9-17
Jesus commanded us to love one another as he loved us; loving one another is how we demonstrate our love for him.
Sunday 5th July Children of God
readings: 1 John 2.28-3.24; John 1.9-14
We are children of God who should love one another with actions and not just words; seeing love in action is how we can recognise those who are children of God.
Sunday 12th July God’s Love and Ours
readings: 1 John 4; John 14.15-24
We can only love because God loved us first and he showed us how he loves us by sending Jesus to rescue us from sin. Since God loved us, we should love others and people will see God in us by the way we do this.
Sunday 19th July Being Faithful to God
readings: 1 John 5; John 10.7-18
We show our love by obeying God’s commands which are not intended to be a burden but enable us to enjoy the fullness of life through Jesus which God gives to those who believe in him.
