Each month we pray for two of our mission partners. During July we are praying for local charity Good News for Everyone, and our international focus is Frontiers UK.
Pill Trust
St Paul’s and St Stephen’s with Holy Trinity on Newport, Wales is an Anglican Church led by Justin & Lucy Groves. The church is in Pillgwenlly, a very diverse neighbourhood with significant areas of social need particularly around addiction and homelessness.
Justin asks that we give thanks:
- that the associated Pill Trust has been able to employ another part time support worker
- for all the families, including an increasing number of Muslims that attend weekly groups
He asks us to pray for:
- the provision of funds to pay for the replacement of the church roof;
- a favourable response from the local authority to the applications to site the new food pantry and missional hub containers;
- for better and more supportive relationships with those in leadership in the Church of Wales;
- for those in the church/parish with significant pastoral needs and for wisdom as to how best to support;
- for continued healing for Lucy as she recovers after her operation.
Frontiers UK
Frontiers UK is a culturally diverse, all age movement of over a thousand Christian workers representing 50 nationalities on more than 200 teams. Our teams live and work amongst their host communities in over 50 Muslim countries, prioritising the peoples and places with least access to the gospel. James & Joanna Price lead one such team, helping Rohingya refugees.
James spent his early life in Berkhamsted, worshipping at Sunnyside and being part of Sunnyside’s children’s and youth groups. Married to Jo, with two children, William & Bethan, they have lived and worked in two locations in South East Asia for much of their married life. They returned there, after a period back in UK, to a different city last September and have settled in a new flat, this time aided by a support team and with the children in a new school. Their aim is to help and encourage Rohingya communities in their city; this involves listening to their concerns and responding to felt needs as appropriate. By learning their language & engaging with their culture and using their gifting and skills to bless them. This enables them to share the good news of Jesus and to invite them to follow Him.
There has been much, in recent days, for which to thank God:
- We had a good time connecting with friends over Eid al-Adha (a three-day Islamic feast which remembers Abraham’s sacrifice). It’s encouraging to have made so many connections in 10 months here.
- There is a real sense of deepening connections in one main community, with our new team members serving in different capacities. We are thankful to have an area to focus in on.
- Joanna found a good location for her third maternity course (which has just started)
but also much to pray for:
- For revelation and Holy Spirit encounters for James’ English Class as they listen to and discuss the stories of ‘God’s history’. So far they have been really engaged and happy to discuss what they mean for us today.
- For OT, a new contact who is open to chat about faith and has previously learnt about the Father heart of God from a mutual friend. He is keen to connect; pray for wisdom as we discern what God is doing through this connection.
- We continue to ask for a good friend for William (school or church) with whom he could meet once or twice over the summer.
- Joanna’s language helper has asked to press pause on teaching due to personal reasons. Please pray Joanna finds ways to practice the local language over the next couple of months.
- We have a team prayer retreat next month to discern which people/projects to focus on. Please pray for covering, wisdom, and a clear sense of leading as we plan and pray. Also, that our kids would have a positive experience over the weekend.
