Mission Focus: August 2025

Each month we pray for two of our mission partners. During August we are praying for local charity Home-Start Herts, and our international focus is the Church Mission Society (CMS).

Church Mission Society (CMS)

Our mission partner Jenga in Uganda (with Bex and the Loved Project as our weekly correspondent) was scheduled as our Mission focus for August. However John O’Brien as Jenga Treasurer with Judy, are currently visiting that country and we look forward to receiving a more informed update on their return.

Consequently we are focusing on our Mission partners Chris and Veronica and family as they relocate from their long term base to a new home and schools near Madrid in the next couple of weeks

Chris & Veronica first visited Sunnyside in 2012 at the start of a challenging mission life into which God called them with the Church Mission Society (CMS). They have visited us several times. They are currently relocating the administrative office of the mission agency of which Chris is the International Director and which periodically requires him to travel overseas. Additionally, they both share in ministering to people of all faiths in their local community.

We heard from Chris in the last few days that they have, after some weeks of searching, now secured accommodation last week but shall only receive the keys in the next two weeks some short days before the new school opens.

We should continue to ask that the Almighty is very close to all the family makes these multiple transitions to a new home, to new schools, to new localities, to a new church (yet to be identified) – to name but a few.

Chris writes:

  • Please pray for Chris’s friend, J, who is a Christian from Bangladesh and had recently arrived in Spain. He does not speak Spanish yet but is working at a restaurant owned by an Arab Muslim man. One of his co-workers, himself a Muslim brought J to church. However J is the only Christian at his workplace and has to work all seven days, which he finds a struggle.
  • Life is busy as we pack for our move to Madrid. While there are still uncertainties, we have peace knowing that God is in control and will be with us each step of the way. Thank you all so much for your prayers.
  • Please pray for P, an elderly Spanish lady, whom Veronica and Samara met whilst waiting for their train home to Oropesa and with whom they spent time discussing deep issues about life.

Home-Start Herts

Home-Start Herts is a local community network of trained volunteers and staff who help families with young children who have multiple and complex issues. They work in the family’s home using a tailored approach to meet individual needs.

They ask us to give thanks for:

  • all their volunteers, their board of trustees and staff members – for their commitment

They ask us to pray for:

  • all the families that are supported as they increasingly face multiple and complex issues
  • the volunteers, that they may have strength ,confidence and resilience in those they support
  • that more volunteers would come forward for training as currently they are having to turn families away due to a shortage of volunteers
  • more funding to enable them to continue this valuable work

The intro sentence has not been updated from last month’s. GNFE and Frontiers were July’s focus.
