Mission Focus: May 2026

Each month we pray for two of our mission partners. Sunnyside’s prayer focus for May locally is Herts Young Homeless, and internationally Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF).

Herts Young Homeless

Herts Young Homeless is the newest organisation to be supported by Gift Day. Their mission is to prevent youth homelessness through education, advice and support for young people and their families. Through early intervention and outreach services, they provide the tools and support needed for young people to rebuild their lives and achieve independence.

They ask us to pray – for all those who work for Herts Young Homeless that they would have the wisdom and sensitivity to give the right support

  • for young people across Herts whose lives are disrupted by family breakdown
  • for provision of funds to help Herts Young Homeless continue to fund its vital services.

Mission Aviation Fellowship

Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is the world’s largest humanitarian air operator, flying medical supplies, doctors, nurses, teachers, development and humanitarian workers as well as relief supplies to some of the most remote places in the world where communities are cut off from access to basic essentials services. Sam & Abby Baguma are based in Kampala, Uganda where Sam serves as the Country Director for MAF’s Programme in Uganda. Before this, Sam was the Development and Support Manager for MAF’s East Africa Programmes, overseeing finance and legal functions in the region. When she’s not busy caring for their two daughters, Rachel and RebeccaAbby teaches at Acacia International Christian School, where Sam is also Chair of the School Board.

Prayers

  • As the Ugandan school year draws to its close, we pray for energy and good health. Rebecca has a couple of events where she will be playing piano and acting as the Unicorn in the school play, Narnia and representing the school in the international schools sports competitions. Please pray that all goes well.
  • We thank God that there has been a steady increase in our flight services even in the midst of financial constraints for our partners. More relief agencies have been able to access funding to continue serving the refugee populations in northern Uganda. Please pray for MAF as we try to manage the ongoing fuel crisis caused by a shortage of supply. In some programmes in the region, the cost of Jet fuel has gone up by over 75%. This is having a knock on effect on all costs for the programmes. Let’s join together and pray for an end to the war in the Middle East.
  • We thank God that the runway upgrades at MAF’s Kajjansi Airport are going well. Even though slightly behind schedule due to the heavy rainy season, the contractor is making good progress. Please pray for strength for our team operating from Entebbe international airport (approx 30 minutes drive from our Kajjansi airstrip & offices ) as they work longer duty hours to make things work.
  • Please pray for the resumption of the work to build an airstrip in the north western part of Uganda, near the largest refugee settlement in Africa. We thank God that the government has finally agreed to provide compensation to the local land owners who had stalled the work for a year. Now the work can resume.
  • Finally, please pray for our team as families begin to leave for home assignment. Please pray that those travelling have a refeshing time with families and supporters in their home countries. This does though leave a shortage of staff to fulfil our programme over the summer months. So, please pray that we can find enough relief pilots for this coming period.
