Each month we pray for two of our mission partners. Sunnyside’s local prayer focus in August is The Hospice of St Francis, and internationally Frontiers UK.
The Hospice of St Francis
The Hospice of St Francis has been serving as a charity that supports 2000+ local people and their families to live their precious lives well. Their support takes many forms – from care in the Hospice itself, to care at home, to support from the health and wellbeing Centre which offers courses, workshops, clinics and therapies.
They ask us to pray:
- for the success of their ‘Summer of Care’ campaign to raise much-needed money at a time when regular donations traditionally drop off (hospices are facing major financial challenges at this time)
- for those who work and volunteer with the bereavement support team, that they would have wisdom and compassion
- and for comfort (both human and divine) for those who are supported by this team.
Frontiers UK
Frontiers UK is a culturally diverse, all-age movement of over a thousand Christian workers representing 50 nationalities on more than 200 teams. Its teams live and work amongst their host communities in over 50 Muslim countries, prioritising the peoples and places with least access to the gospel. James & Joanna Price lead one such team, helping Rohingya refugees.
James spent his early life in Berkhamsted, worshipping at Sunnyside and being part of Sunnyside’s children’s and youth groups. Married to Jo, with two children, William & Bethan, they have lived and worked in two locations in South East Asia for much of their married life. They returned there, after a period back in UK, to a different city in September 2024, this time aided by a support team and with the children in a new school. Their aim is to help and encourage Rohingya communities in their city; this involves listening to their concerns and responding to felt needs as appropriate. By learning their language & engaging with their culture and using their gifting and skills to bless them. This enables them to share the good news of Jesus and to invite them to follow Him.”
Prayer points:
- Please pray for our Rohingya friends. Protests, petitions against the Rohingya, and immigration raids have created a great deal of fear, with many people being detained. Learning centres have closed, and many families are fearful to leave the house. Pray that God would be near to them, bringing comfort, protection, and peace.
- Pray for our team whilst we are on Home Mission Assignment (HMA). Pray that they will continue exploring relationships, feel equipped for each day and situation, and know God’s wisdom, strength, and guidance in all they do.
- We would value your prayers for us during our HMA. Pray that the children cope well with all the changes, and that we find a good balance between work, and staying connected with friends and family.
